A weekend in Winchester!

Last weekend I took a trip to Winchester to visit my friend who moved to the town a year ago.  To celebrate her son’s 3rd birthday we took a trip to the local wildlife centre, which was totally out of this world. Forget London Zoo… Marwell Park is where it’s at!
Marwell Wildlife parkI’m  huge fan of Winchester since first going last xmas.  I was glad I got a chance to explore more parts this time.  The old town has a real country heritage vibe and is generally a lovely place to get away and relax.  You actually feel like you’re outside of the UK when you arrive as it’s so different!

Here’s a few snaps of the town and area!

I stayed in a really cool B&B for the first time.  It was only a 10 minute walk from the centre but it was fabulous as it was like a home from home in a really cool Brookside style cul de sac!  Definitely better than a chain hotel!

Here’s some snaps from the B&B!

This the most bizarre road EVER!  It apparently lets people walk through but there’s no pavement so you dont know how to get through!  As soon as there were no cars, I grabbed my mini case and ran for my life!
Turns out you press the pedestrian button which then turns off both lights letting you walk through.

CRAYZEEEEEEEE!

Anyway, once I got to Marwell Park I got super excited, more than the children!  I love animals and this place is miles better than any zoo i’ve been to.  The animals are in wide spaces so can move about loads! I  loved being up close with the tiger.  Surreal!

I also discovered that meercats are the tiniest animals ever… that advert is HIGHLY deceptive! LOL!

Winchester is only 50 minutes from Clapham Junction, with lots of people commuting. It really is a fab place to head to for a relaxing time away… I could picture myself moving there!

I can’t wait to go back!

There are lots of great walks in the city, and all within easy reach. Next visit, try along the water meadows, or up the steps to St Giles Hill, for the views.
