Ashish – LFW SS13
Welcome back Ashish… Oh how I’ve missed your urban East-side garms.
My outsider view on the runway:
I wasn’t impressed with Ashish‘s AW12 showcase, I feel he went far too leftfield with choppy results. A bit like a ‘turf war’, you kind of tend to stay in your own lane, and Ashish is definitely an East/South East inspired designer. For autumn he decided to mix it up with a bit of each part of London… Naaaah mate!
Anyway Ashish went back to his side for next summer with a very slight punky edge, that didn’t distract from his outlook. Cue rolled up denim overalls with one side in full blown contrasting sequins, double denim motif design outfits, all accessorised with worn in trainers. To complete the look Ashish went to East Street Market back in 1996 and picked up a selection of massive hair bands and plonked them around each of the model’s hightop buns for a real South East London throwback look.
For a bit of jazz he took sporty drawstring (oh lordddd!) gym pants from the 90’s and tarted them up with even more sequins, but the miniscule glitter looking ones, for a modern party look. I wasn’t feeling a few of the character prints but I did love his super chic polka dot trousers. A bit of a random understated look and feel for him, but it totally worked.
As another throwback, Ashish took the simple white shirt and crushed it up with uneven buttons (naughtyschoolgirlshirt/boyfriendshirt/or/lazydressingshirt) – take your pick… and he added a netting polka dot skirt over the top with rolled up shorts under neath for a positively trashy outfit. I’m glad he left slogans well alone and didn’t make the, his focus, because South-Eastside doesn’t roll with such motifs… just throwback Pepe jeans and Kappa badges… Those were the days!
