Versace – MFW SS13
Donatella Versace heads to the Wild Wild West? But what for?
My outsider view on the runway:
We, what do we have here? Versace has always been my first ‘goto’ brands when I think of my fave Italian designers. However in recent years Donatella has experimented a bit more and I don’t think she 100% pulls it off. For next summer she’s taken the winter Safari trend and added gold, silver and overall Versace shine.
I was a bit put off with the wild rest look as it came across as unpolished and tacky. the ‘drop waist’ look made it far too casual and Versace does Haute Couture now so this is definitely a downgrade. Anyway, the collection warmed up with seas colours from aqua marine right up to ocean blue.
This is when the accessories proper stood out and we were ‘back in the room’ with Versace. Cue oversized gold necklaces that made more statements than the dress is was adorning. One of the better pieces was the blue tie dye longline waistcoat teamed with matching shorts that were more like hotpants.
To end the show the real Versace stood up with swaying gold and silver tassel mini dresses and statement Versace gold belts that nipped in the waists of the flowing maxi dresses. For the added ‘BOOM’ factor, each of the maxi’s rocked slits right up to the thigh… oh my Angelina Jolie would be proud right?
It wasn’t a bad collection, but it wasn’t that great either. I would’ve preferred a collection in line with the later pieces.
