DAKS – LFW AW13
Day two of LFW started with the one and only DAKS!
I was rather excited to head off to Daks this morning as they always do British elegance in a totally different way to the likes of Burberry. Their signature check print is always entwined with different styles for a modern twist, and this morning was no exception!
My insider view on the runway:
I got there 2 minutes before the show started and was ushered to the middle for standing space. I was totally shocked at how packed it was considering it was a 9am show, but it was totally jammed!! I didn’t spot any famous faces as I was super focused on the show ahead. Anyhoos I popped out my new DSLR and got myself into position. One minute later the lights went down and the show popped off!
The show opened with a boyish look with masculine double breasted waistcoat chino style jumpsuits teamed with oversized jackets. For traditional Daks, their check print shirt was thrown into the mix.
As the show progressed I spotted city girl shorts, metallics, bright orange (yes I’m a summer baby) and rosy florals, an alternative direction for Daks. I really loved the new additions especially the florals as most designers stick to seasonal themes and flowers aren’t really one for winter but Daks totally changed that way of thinking!
One of my fave looks was a model in a cropped box jacket, a spanx style waist full A-line skirt teamed with leather wide calf boots. The look was super structured and sharp with a slight twang of soft femininity.
Overall Daks thought outside of the box and played with a lot of fabrics, colours and style for a much fresher look for AW13. Instead of the usual colours and suspects we got spring flowers, summer colours mixed with gothic leather, autumn purple and not forgetting their traditional British heritage check print.
Definitely a winning start to LFW day 2!
