Village AW14 press day: Ashish
Ashish took a 50 odd year old Barbie and broke her down to a next level!
Barbie has gone so far underground, you can see her at a Drum n Bass rave in East London, at the dirtiest grime club in Ayia Napa, hitting up Pacha in Ibiza rocking the glitziest sequin garms with a snapback, or in the Bronx in Brooklyn waiting for the 6 train to get her hustle on.
Wherever she is in the world, it’s Ashish‘s AW14 offering all the way to the Frontline!
I only saw a couple of Ashish runway pictures for next season but from what I saw it was a really tamed down version of what is usually LFW’s most fun and vibrant showcase, well next to Meadham and Kirchhoff anyway.
Ashish usually leans the way with the urban aesthetic, with the likes of Mark Fast following behind.
Seeing the stuff up close this was a more wearable collection for us mere mortals that love urban flavour and sequins. I can already see River Island will running well away with this collection as the high street queen of sequins and sparkle.
I thought this Ashish collection had a bit too much mesh for me and the colours were too neutral, even the gold was of a low shine. As a lover of pink though, the bubblegum shade was the most attractive to me, and totally make me instantly think of Barbie. just in an urban and grimey way.
I have to say though, the ‘Basic’ Tee gave me the most laughs as it immediately made me think of potty mouthed Khloe Kardashian, who is forever clapping back at people on Twitter, telling them they’re ‘basic bitches‘.
